broken walls

One morning in Atlanta…

Wake up my soul, wake up my heart.  That I may see the reality of Your presence everlasting.
You are all that satisfies. Purify my heart that I may see You.

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.” Matt 5:8

“This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!” Ezekiel 13:3

“You have not gone up to the breaks in the wall to repair it for the house of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the LORD.” Ezekiel 13:5

“‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth. When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”
“Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the LORD.” Ezekiel 13:10-14

Oh how we build these flimsy religions.  We build these comfortable lives, with the nice whitewashed churches to make us feel safe.  Feeling a false peace.  We do not really live, our faith is so flimsy, shaken by the slightest discomfort or hard situation.
We in the Lord are supposed to be unshakable! But oh how we are so easily shaken!  A bit of money problems, a relationship problem, a family problem, a death of a loved one. And suddenly our comfortable little faith gets rocked and crumbles to the ground! Any tragedy then suddenly we are asking, “Where is God?” We are denied the slightest pleasure and we doubt His goodness! Distrust His will.  When He demands discipline and obedience that is not comfortable to us for restricts our will, our faith wavers.

So God sends out His wrath to shake the foundations of things that we put our trust in.  To shatter faith that is not sound. He would rather destroy your false faith that gives you false security than let you live in a lie.  Because one day.  This will happen.  The torrents, the hailstones, the wind and the rain will come, and the fury of God’s wrath will be unleashed and if we have a wall that is flimsy it will be destroyed and we under it.
I pray that God will break my false walls of hope before that time, that God will send pretrials before that final day.  So in every hardship, every storm, if the world is not over or if you are not dead then thank God for that storm. For God sent it out of His love for you. He wanted to test the foundations of your heart, of your faith.  Were you shaken? Was Your trust in God shaken?  Did you doubt the Lord? Did you turn to sin?
Then God has given you now a second chance. It is time to rebuild the wall. It is time to repair the breaks in it.  It is time to build it on the foundation of Jesus.  Start all over. Build your wall on the word, on discipline that comes from grace, faith that is real that is not just some imaginary invisible thing. But make it real. Make it change your life, really. The way you think, the attitude you have towards everything, your motives for everything, your outward actions, daily disciplines, the giving of your money, the purity of your sexually.  All things.

Lord may I build the wall.   Truly You can make us unshakable.
